Using Stop Words in Title Tags - What's Your Best Practice?

Over the the years in real estate my business relies more and more on the use of websites, blogs and social media.  I am now at the point where 100% of my business is now generated from the Internet and webs.  I'm not bragging, it is what I do to earn a living in real estate, and I am know nationally in real estate for my SEO and web placement abilities.  However, I also like staying below the radar, and only do seminars and speaking engagements sparingly. I can personally attest that much of that success is solely based upon my time on the web, the age of my domains, a lot of trial and error, and cumulative experience gained from over 15 years on the web. So now the secret is out!  I've just been doing this for a long time so to me it is second nature.

However, I recently came across an a thread on the web that talked about stop words, and what words to avoid using in a title tag.  These stop words are that are not supposed to be in your title, and if so used sparingly because the search engines do not like them.  It's interesting, but I've never really paid much attention to the use or non-use of these words because I have my own idea how to write title tags, meta descriptions, keywords and tags and but thought it would be a great topic of discussion for Active Rain!  What words or words do you avoid using in your title(s) of WebPages, WordPress blogs or posts?  Some of the more common stop words that are suggested not to be used in a title or title tag are:

and, an, at,which, on, a, the, for, to... etc.

Hey Jim, this is the first I have heard of stop words myself though I would not proclaim to be nearly as experienced as you are with the web, Internet, blogs, etc.  I'll interested to hear what AR Staff has to say about the topic.  Continued success to you sir!

Hi Jim, This is the first time I've heard about Stop words.  We have some web gurus here and I'd like to see what they contribute om the subject.

Hi Jim, very interesting, regarding the stop words...been into the internet a lot over the last several years, but never really heard anyone talk about stop words.  Something to definitely keep in mind going forward....

Is, And,Are, But are the ones I'm familiar with - but admit I don't stay as "tuned" into it as maybe I should be.

John Hrisco & Associates: 817-328-1400: NE Tarrant County Real Estate Experts (John Hrisco & Associates )   I've been tagging for years and I guess for me it is second nature...I use them very sparingly.

Joshua Harley (Fathom Realty - A Tech-Savvy Real Estate Brokerage) I feel the same.  It never hurts to take another look and see if there is room for improvement.

This is the first that I have ever heard of a 'stop" word. I was hoping to learn more about them, but it appears they are not too well understood???

Christine McInerney- The McInerney Team Knoxville TN Homes For Sale (The McInerney Team with Keller Williams Realty)   I was hoping too!  :(  However Stop words are words that search engine spiders do not really index - or they offer no boost to search engine position.  They tend to be very counter productive.  It is not about the English grammar used...it is about SEO indexability.
