Real Estate Bloggers - Why Blog?

Have you ever wondered why one website can be found and others cannot?  I don't.  There's no magic here, and I know the reason.  I notice a lot of real estate Blogs that on the surface look OK, but upon closer examination have absolutely no SEO value.  Nada!  None!  Those posting are just wasting their time, and may as well be bagging groceries at the local supermarket.  Their efforts are in vain because they obviously do not know what they are doing, and they are too afraid to admit that they are clueless.  This is one example where faking it until you make it will not work.

Just for a moment, forget the social media part, and think instead of putting some food on the table, paying the bills, and putting some money in the bank.  How do the posters of these Blogs expect the work and income will appear from their Blogging?  Do they have a plan? I have to ask myself, are the writers of these "Lost in space" posts Blogging without a purpose?  Do they have someone in mind for the post?  I think most of those that Blog do not.  First of all, I am not talking about isolated incidents I see from time to time.  Au contraire!  There are so many Blogs posted without any thought to content, or posted without an audience in mind. These posts will never be found by anyone because they have no SEO value.

Wordless posts have become quite popular, but it is another case of the Blind leading the blind. I have one word 'Wordless' posts when it comes to SEO...the word is "Worthless!" I've been doing SEO for over14 years now and forgive me, but I just don't get the "Wordless" or "Speechless" thing.  Does the poster realize that without accompanying text, Alt-Image tags, or tags they are pretty much "Worthless" in the eyes of the search engine spiders?  If you do not believe me, try finding one of these posts in Google.  It is just about impossible.  The reason is that there is nothing in the post that identifies it.  You may be impressing other agents in your social media grouping, but there is an old saying in real estate "Are they going to buy a home from you?  Then you have to ask even if the post could be found on Google... "Will the post maintain that position on the net?"  Without content or a purpose (Theme or core subject) it is impossible to maintain that web position.  The main purpose of social media is the potential for "Viral marketing!" Blogging and social media is supposed to be all about real estate marketing of yourself and image, but what if no one can find your marketing?  Some marketers are better than others, but success is easy if you know what you are doing.

In Blogging and websites content is king. Paragraphs, word choices, anchor text with a phrase that links the readers and spiders to a page you want to stay high in the search engines like "Atlanta homes for sale" is an opportunity not to be missed.  The right sentence content, and word choices are your opportunity to get your post noticed on the top of page 1 in the major search engines.  Conversely, those without it and void of any SEO content will never be found. What a concept!  A high web ranking website or Blog may get your some business if you play your cards right.   If the public can find you, and they like what they see they will bookmark you and come back again and again because they view your Blog or real estate site as a resource.  In SEO terms we call that "Stickiness!"  If your site has no glue to make it adhere to the engines you will never have that opportunity.  Your Blogging will not work at all.

TagsA blog is really no different than a website.  It has to have a title, content, links and tags that will allow it to stick to the search engines.  The content of the Blog needs to be rich and supporting to the core theme of the posts.  On a website we would say "Key word rich text." Blogs are really no different. Relevant links that have anchor text need to bring your readers where you want to bring them. Then you basically need loads of very succinct keywords or phrases which in blogging they are referred to as "TAGS!"  Tags identify and literally catalog your posts into the Internet.

The reason that I am posting this is simple.  In Active Rain, I've seen those that have amassed loads of points without any of the above.  So outside of AR or even internally they are worthless. If something is not property tagged, or titled how can you even search for it?

Last night while reading a few AR posts, I became aware that a few Blogs did not even identify the city or state the property was in.  A poor or incomplete title of the Blog has a direct bearing on finding a Blog by a search engine or reader doing an internal search or archive search.  Non descriptive titles.

BEFORE YOU POST!

  • Did  you mention in the post or title - the city, state or country the property is located in.
  • Does the Blog have a purpose other than points.
  • Did you give any thoughts about SEO?
  • Do you have internal links with Anchor Text or tags in the paragraph body.
  • Picture or Wordless posts what do they really accomplish other than points?
  • Lack of keywords, phrases or tags.
  • Are you lacking real content or photos with Alt-image tags.
  • Details - do they lack of property description, price or upgrades?
  • Have you "Disabled responses."
  • Did you posted to any group?
  • Is it posted to "Members Only!"  Why?
  • Did you post to "Localism"
