Real Estate Signs Ordinance in Johns Creek
The City of Johns Creek has begun weekend patrols to enforce the city's sign ordinance, according to Director of Community Development Mike Williams. Officers have removed many improperly-placed signs in the last month.
Avoiding removal of your real estate sign (and a possible citation) is easy if you follow the City's sign ordinance. Most real estate signs, including directional signs, fall within the definition of "standard informational sign" in the ordinance. As such, their placement is restricted as follows:
- No signs may be placed within the public right-of-way. Code enforcement staff advise that an easy way to locate the right-of-way is to use visual cues like fire hydrants and utility poles;
- Signs may be placed on private property, but only with the consent of the property owner; and
- Signs on private roadways may be placed no closer than ten feet to the back of the curb.
Director Williams also reminds real estate professionals and others that the sign ordinance strictly prohibits the attachment of balloons to signs. If you want to use balloons, keep them out of the public right-of-way and attach them to something other than your sign.
