There are many in our real estate business that tout themselves as know-it-alls, or experts in whatever field they choose. There's no loss for a spiritual marketing types in any field in real estates. We have Internet gurus, technology speakers, real estate coaches, SEO experts, social media, staging, real estate sales trainers and more. Some of these icons of real estate or so called "Gurus' have almost a cult-like following for those seeking the ultimate in whatever technique they're into at the time. At these seminars, conferences, and events there are books, back to basic camps, seminars, tapes, pod casts, weekend retreats and cruises. You can follow them to your heart's delight, as long as you can belly up the monies and fees! Most will never learn the lessons they are teaching. I am never really impressed by these types, instead I find my inpiration in my peers and in life.
This week I was really impressed by two individuals. I really had to stop and take notice of them. One is an older man that goes to the gym I go to. While I boast of doing 5 miles a day on the elliptical machine, I look at this older man in his 70's that comes to the gym, and works out every day at the same time. It is obvious that he's had a stroke. For him to lift one foot up to get on a bicycle machine is an effort. Each step he takes has to be a deliberate movement that takes the utmost of concentration and will to move one step foreword and keep his balance, and then.... to then move the other leg and foot foreword. He moves across the floor of the gym at a snails pace, but he always succeeds. It is painful to watch him in action, but it always rewarding to see him accomplish his task. I see him there almost every day, and now I am most inspired. He is not a quitter, but has every reason to be one.
Another friend of mine was diagnosed with terminal cancer this week. Please keep him and his family in your prayers. My friend and I have a lot in common. We both work in real estate. He is my age, has two sons like me, he is married for almost the same amount of time as Ellen and myself. He has just been told he has a short time to live. He has cancer. The news was very painful to me, because I have empathy with him on so many levels. I wanted to do something, pray or wish that it was not so. I did not want to call him, but I felt compelled to do so. It was the best thing I could ever do. My friend was spiritually centered, and accepting of the events around him. I am not saying he was comfortable with it, but he had the right attitude. He shared about his love of his wife and boys, and yet he had strength and focus in every word he shared. I also took this time to share with him, my thoughts, prayers and wishes. I envied his steady voice, and clear lucid thoughts. He really had no bitterness.
What inspired me most about these two individuals was that they had accepted where they were in life. They motivated me on a very different level. As an outsider looking in, I wonder if I could do the same given their circumstance in life. Yet, their actions prove they had achieved what others could only dream of. Each of these persons had a determination to move forward living their life with the cards they were dealt with acceptance, humility, dignity, determination, perseverance, and grace. I am very grateful to have known such fine individuals, and I hope that I can learn and follow their example. I pray that they continue to have the strength to move forward and each day their lives be full and rich with Gods love, blessings and grace.
