Are You Really a Greenie?

I read so much these days about Green I could get sick from hearing such nonsense.  It really is not about the environment at all.  It is about making money by being part of the ‘In crowd.'  My own thought about the ‘Green movement' is that there is a lot of hypocrisy.  Talk is cheap.   "Not in my backyard"  is probably what would really come about if anyone was really questioned on where they really  stand on the environment.

My parents are both from Newfoundland, and it is interesting that in my life I've lived on self sufficient farms where the eggs, the milk, the meat, the water, the trout came from nearby streams, and the veggies all came from the land.  Homes were built from the lumber on the land on which it stood.  The wood burning stoves were started with branches of pine trees that had turned a bright red in color.  They were called "Blasty bows!"  The red hot fire would cook the meals for the day, bake fresh bread, and toast was made right on the surface.   There were no plastic wrappers needed for the fresh baked bread...it was so good it didn't last long.  There was no such thing as an electric coffee pot, toaster, or electric  teapots.  You didn't need a microwave to defrost and cook a frozen meal from your freezer.   I could remember my aunt washing clothes in nearby streams with a washboard.   Like I mentioned, this was as self sufficient as you can find.  There was no waste in spite of the lack of electricity.

Today's so called "Greenies" type away and Blog about protecting the environment on their PC on laptops whose plastic is made from petro chemicals.  Coal burning, fossil fuels, and gas fired power plants keep the power on for these on line ‘Greenie types' that hide behind the environment as they pitch their wares.  I often wonder how many of these so called "Green minded" folks would allow someone using a clothes line in their own neighborhood to dry washed clothes naturally with sun and air?  Think of the concept.  No power, no electric, no carbon foot print, no pollution?  Or in reality, would they think that it turned the neighborhood into an eyesore?  If so many in this nation are extolling the virtues of "Wind power"...how does that apply to their neighborhood?  Sen. Ted Kennedy was against wind generated turbines in Massachusetts, near where he lived, but it was OK to place them elsewhere.  Hypocritical?  I think so.

So I really wonder could "Greenies" could give up their own comforts to live a lifestyle that really supports a better environment.  Could they turn off the computers, and live without cable TV, air conditioning, and zoned heating?  Please keep in mind, power comes at a cost.  How tolerant would they really be?  Would they allow their neighbors to hang clothes out to dry on a clothes line?

I'm sorry if I asked more questions than I answered,, but all  I read on line strikes me as it is coming from 'opportunists!'  Just curious...what are your thoughts?
